West Bengal Government Declares Holiday on Viswakarma Puja, 17 September 2025

The Government of West Bengal has officially announced that Wednesday, September 17, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday on the occasion of Viswakarma Puja. The Finance Department issued Notification No. 3323-F(P2) dated September 10, 2025, confirming the decision.
Offices and Institutions which will remain closed
As per the notification, the holiday will be applicable to:
- All State Government Offices
- Local Bodies, Statutory Bodies, Boards, Corporations, and Undertakings owned or controlled by the State Government
- Educational Institutions and other offices under state control
This ensures that almost all public offices across West Bengal will remain closed on Viswakarma Puja.
Offices which will remain opened on the Viswakarma Puja Day
The notification also specifies exceptions. Two important offices in Kolkata will remain open:
- The Office of the Registrar of Assurances, Kolkata
- The Office of the Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata
This exemption has been made to ensure uninterrupted public service in revenue and registration-related work.

Viswakarma Puja, dedicated to the divine architect and engineer, holds cultural and industrial significance in Bengal. It is widely celebrated in factories, workshops, media houses, and offices with enthusiasm. The holiday declaration is expected to enable citizens to participate fully in the festivities while maintaining essential government services in key areas.
